Baitadi jeep crash: Death toll rises to four

KATHMANDU: The death toll from a jeep accident in Baitadi has risen to four after one of the injured passengers died during treatment.

According to Baitadi police spokesperson Inspector Suraj Singh, 27-year-old Basanti Air of Sigas Rural Municipality–1 succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital.

The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Monday at Sadighati, Patan Municipality–8, along the Jayaprithvi Highway.

The Bolero jeep (registration number: Ma 1 Ja 224), which was heading from Motinagar to Dadeldhura, lost control and plunged nearly 300 meters down the road.

Three people died on the spot: 24-year-old Nishant Bohara and 29-year-old Bhandev Bhatt of Sigas–1, and 13-year-old Rakesh Rawal of Alital Rural Municipality–3, Dadeldhura.

Six others were injured in the crash. They include 19-year-old Bimala Air, four-year-old Pransa Air, 28-year-old driver Ganesh Bista, 25-year-old Kamala Bista, 25-year-old Lalmani Bohara, and 32-year-old Birendra Bohara.

All the injured are currently receiving treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
