Attorney General submits FY 2081/82 annual report to President Paudel

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) submitted its annual report for the fiscal year 2081/82 to President Ramchandra Poudel at the Presidential Residence, Sheetal Niwas, today.

The report highlights that out of 75,165 cases, writs, and petitions filed in various courts, 66.34% were resolved in favor of the government.
During the fiscal year, 59,355 cases were registered across national investigative agencies with the government as the plaintiff. Of these, the OAG pursued legal action in 42,109 cases involving 66,382 individuals.
Conversely, 4,547 cases involving 4,841 individuals were dismissed without further proceedings.
Additionally, out of 3,075 defendants handled by the OAG and its subordinate offices, 2,612 cases were resolved through settlements.
The offices also provided legal opinions on 52 matters, responding to 47 of them.
In total, the OAG and its subordinate offices represented the government in 127,409 court proceedings, including 105,036 cases filed by the government, 16,514 writs filed against the government, and 5,859 other petitions, reflecting a 3.9% decrease compared to the previous fiscal year.
Under Article 159(1) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Attorney General is mandated to submit an annual report of the office’s activities in accordance with the Constitution and federal law.
