KATHMANDU: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to the ICC, Arshdeep violated Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing the ball or other cricket equipment at or near a player in a dangerous or inappropriate manner during an international match.

The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team. After fielding the ball in his follow-through, Arshdeep threw it back in frustration, and the ball struck the pads of New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.

The moment briefly created tension on the field, with Mitchell appearing displeased before umpires stepped in to manage the situation. Arshdeep later acknowledged the mistake and accepted the sanction imposed by the ICC.

In addition to the financial penalty, one demerit point has been added to Arshdeep’s disciplinary record. Since it is his first offence within a 24-month period, the penalty does not result in any suspension.

Under ICC regulations, Level-1 offences can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the incident.
