KATHMANDU: Arsenal F.C. have been crowned English Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after defending champions Manchester City F.C. were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday.

City’s title hopes suffered a major blow after Bournemouth struck first in the 39th minute through Junior Kroupi, giving the visitors a surprise lead before halftime.

Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the second half and pushed relentlessly for an equaliser. Their pressure finally paid off deep into stoppage time when star striker Erling Haaland found the net in the fifth minute of injury time to rescue a point for City.

However, the draw was not enough to keep the title race alive. With one match remaining, Arsenal now hold an unassailable four-point lead over City, with Mikel Arteta’s side on 82 points compared to City’s 78.

The triumph marks Arsenal’s first Premier League title since the historic “Invincibles” campaign of 2003-04 and represents a major milestone for manager Mikel Arteta, who has transformed the North London club into champions once again.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the future of City boss Pep Guardiola, with reports suggesting this could be his final season at the club. Guardiola has previously guided City to six Premier League titles during his remarkable tenure.

Despite denying City victory, Bournemouth also celebrated an impressive achievement under coach Andoni Iraola. Iraola has already confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season after successfully leading Bournemouth into European competition next season. Bournemouth currently sit sixth in the table with 56 points.
