Arsenal beat 10-man Chelsea; Man Utd climb to third
All three goals in Sunday’s London derby came from corner kicks.
KATHMANDU: League leaders Arsenal survived a tough test at the Emirates Stadium as they secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over 10-man Chelsea to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points.
All three goals in Sunday’s London derby came from corner kicks.
Arsenal took the lead in the 21st minute through a powerful header from William Saliba. However, Chelsea responded just before half-time when a dangerous corner resulted in an own goal from Piero Hincapié, bringing the score level at 1–1.
The turning point came early in the second half when Pedro Neto was shown a red card after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving Chelsea with 10 men.
Arsenal pressed their advantage and finally found the winner in the 66th minute, when Jurriën Timber rose highest to head home from another corner.
Mikel Arteta’s side now maintain a comfortable cushion over reigning champions Manchester City, while Chelsea remain in sixth place in the table.
Manchester United Climb to Third After Comeback Win Over Crystal Palace
Manchester United moved up to third place in the Premier League after fighting back from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2–1 at Old Trafford.
Palace stunned the home crowd early when Maxence Lacroix headed in after just four minutes, putting United on the back foot.
The match changed dramatically when Lacroix was sent off for pulling back Matheus Cunha as he broke through on goal. United were awarded a penalty, which captain Bruno Fernandes calmly converted in the 57th minute.
Eight minutes later, Fernandes turned provider, delivering a perfect cross for Benjamin Šeško to head home the winning goal. The Slovenian forward had also scored the decisive goal against Everton on Monday, continuing his fine run of form.
The victory lifts United above Aston Villa into third place. Crystal Palace stay 14th, though they remain 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
