KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has honored two of its personnel who successfully scaled Mount Everest and Lhotse, marking a historic achievement for the organization and for women in Nepal’s security forces.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Nim Diki Sherpa and Assistant Head Constable Anita Karki, both serving under Armed Police Force Nepal, were felicitated at the APF headquarters in Halchowk, SwAyambhu on May 22.

The recognition ceremony was led by Inspector General Narayan Datta Paudel.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General congratulated both climbers for successfully summiting the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, and Mount Lhotse.

He said that hoisting the national and organizational flag at such extreme altitudes is a matter of pride for the entire force and significantly boosts morale across all ranks.

He further highlighted that such achievements inspire courage, determination, and high morale within the organization.

He also emphasized that APF Nepal will continue prioritizing activities that promote adventure, resilience, and capacity building among its personnel.

The IG noted that APF Nepal has been strengthening its capabilities in high-altitude security and emergency response, particularly through specialized training programs conducted at the Mountain Rescue Training School in Manang.

These programs include high-altitude search and rescue training, which are enhancing the force’s effectiveness in Himalayan and mountainous regions.

Both climbers expressed gratitude for the support received from the organization and all stakeholders. They said that successfully hoisting the national and organizational flags atop Everest was a moment of immense pride and dedication.

Assistant Head Constable Anita Karki successfully summited Mount Everest at 10:20 AM on May 17.

Similarly, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nim Diki Sherpa reached the summit of Everest at 11:55 AM on the same day and later also successfully climbed Mount Lhotse at 3:25 PM on Jestha 4.

With this milestone, they have become the first female climbers from APF Nepal to summit Everest, marking a historic moment for the organization.

Their achievement is expected to further encourage women’s participation, leadership, and capability development within Nepal’s security forces.
