KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe has strongly criticized lawmakers from the ruling side, saying he felt “embarrassed” by their conduct over issues related to Nepal’s border.

Speaking during Wednesday’s session of the House of Representatives, Angdembe questioned the tendency of some ruling party MPs to search for claims suggesting that Nepal has encroached on foreign land.

He said it was inappropriate for lawmakers to behave as if Nepal had crossed into India’s territory, stressing that such narratives damage national dignity.

He remarked that instead of defending the country’s position, some ruling MPs appear overly focused on proving that Nepal has encroached on India, a stance he described as deeply concerning and unacceptable.

Angdembe reaffirmed that Nepal has not encroached on anyone’s land, adding that issues such as Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura are integral parts of Nepal’s territory.

He emphasized that such longstanding border disputes should be resolved through serious and structured diplomatic dialogue rather than political confusion or public controversy.

He further warned that actions and statements undermining national sentiment would be condemned by the public and even “history itself,” referencing national figures to underline the seriousness of respecting sovereignty.

Angdembe also expressed concern over what he described as a “painful situation” in parliament, saying that the ability of lawmakers to raise meaningful questions was being weakened in the current political environment.

His remarks come amid ongoing political debate in Nepal regarding border-related narratives and diplomatic sensitivities with neighboring India.
