KATHMANDU: The case against Amala Roka, who was arrested in the 61 kg gold smuggling case, has been filed at the Kathmandu District Court.

The hearing against her is scheduled to take place before the bench of Judge Balram Lamsal.

Following the completion of Roka’s statement at the court, a bail hearing is scheduled for today.

The court will decide whether to release her on bail, impose a surety, or send her to pretrial detention.

Roka was apprehended last Friday by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Tokha, Kathmandu.

An Interpol diffusion notice had been issued for her arrest prior to this.

Amala Roka, a Maoist leader from Rolpa and wife of Belgian national Dawa Chhiring, was allegedly involved in the gold smuggling.

The couple is reported to have expanded connections with Maoist leaders after their marriage.

On Shrawan 2, 2079, 61 kilograms of gold was seized after clearing customs at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Following preliminary investigations, the Revenue Investigation Department handed over the case to the CIB for further inquiry.
