KATHMANDU: Al-Hilal were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Al-Ahli at home in a highly anticipated Saudi Pro League clash on Monday.

The result continued Al-Hilal’s recent trend of dropping points, marking their third consecutive draw.

Despite this, the reigning champions remain top of the table with 47 points.

However, their lead over second-placed Al-Nassr has been cut to just one point, while Al-Ahli sit three points behind Al-Hilal in third place.

The game saw some close calls. In the 21st minute, Sergej Milinković-Savić came close to giving Al-Hilal the lead with a curling free-kick that sailed just over the crossbar.

Later, in the 76th minute, Al-Ahli’s Roger Ibanez nearly put his team ahead with a header from a corner, but the ball narrowly missed the target.

In the dying moments, Salim Al-Dawsari appeared to score a decisive goal for Al-Hilal, only for it to be ruled out after a VAR review confirmed Malcolm was offside in the buildup.

Al-Ahli were reduced to 10 men in injury time as Ali Majrashi received a red card, yet they held strong defensively to secure a vital point in the title race.
