KATHMANDU: Questioning whether humans are erasing the existence of others, the play “A Thibeu!” staged at Battisputali’s Shilpee Theatre on Jan 23.

Directed by renowned theatre artist Bedana Rai, the production is presented by Chadke Topi Arts and Studio.

Inspired by the Kirat community’s mythological tale of Thibiya, the play portrays a mother’s grief, longing, and transformation after losing her child.

Centering on the mythological figure Thibeu, it delves into the bond between parent and child, humanity’s intimate relationship with nature, and human responsibility towards the environment.

The play also examines the subtle yet pervasive presence of patriarchy in society and its enduring impact on contemporary life, presenting these themes with poignant clarity on stage.

Written by Gilu Rato, the production features an ensemble cast including Sangita Thapa, Sanjiv Rai, Sohang Rai Thulung, Pravin Pokhrel, Sanjip Yogi, Abhishek Sharma Rajopadhyaya, Anjana Rai, Chirag Paneru, Roshani Karki, Regina Rai, Purnabahadur Gandharv, Agnishree Bishwakarma, Shanta Rai, Renuka Gharti Magar, Manika Lama, David Subedi, Yugal Shrestha, and Pawan Kumar Tamang (Gole).

Performances run daily at 5:15 PM, except Tuesdays, with an additional show on Saturdays at 1:00 PM, continuing until Feb 16.
