612 benefited from free eye camp in Simkot, 69 undergo cataract surgery

KATHMANDU: A three-day free eye camp held in Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, has provided services to 612 people, with 69 patients receiving free cataract surgery.

The camp was organized by the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Humla Branch, in coordination with the Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara, and supported financially and technically by the Ready Eye Foundation.

Services included free eye examinations, distribution of medicines, cataract surgeries, and prescription glasses.

Residents from Namkha, Simkot, Kharpunath, Sarkegad, and Chankheli rural municipalities were the primary beneficiaries.

The medical team was led by ophthalmologist Dr. Anil Parajuli from Himalaya Eye Hospital.

Dr. Parajuli informed that cataract surgery was performed on all individuals diagnosed with the condition during the camp.

Beneficiaries included children, senior citizens, and people with various eye problems.

Children with low vision and persons with disabilities received further treatment support and corrective glasses as needed.

Following the successful camp in Simkot, the Ready Eye Foundation announced that a similar eye camp will now be conducted in Adanchuli Rural Municipality of Humla.

The program was coordinated with support from the Nepal Red Cross Society, Humla Branch, and the District Eye Treatment Center.
