KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Sharadadevi Bhatt of the CPN-UML has urged the government to take diplomatic action to secure the release of Bipan Joshi from Kanchanpur, who has been held hostage by Hamas.

Speaking at Tuesday’s National Assembly session, Bhatta expressed concern over the lack of information about Joshi’s condition even after two years of his abduction.

She accused the government of ignoring efforts to rescue him and highlighted the suffering endured by his family, calling it a result of state negligence.

She said, “It is deeply saddening that Bipan Joshi has not been rescued even after two years of being held by Hamas. We still do not know his current condition. His mother and sister are traveling abroad, begging for help, and it is heart-wrenching to witness. I strongly urge the government to use diplomatic channels to secure his release, as the state is supposed to protect its citizens.”

Bipan Joshi was abducted in Ashoj 2080 during the Israel-Hamas conflict, and his current situation remains unknown.
