267 arrested over Gen Z protest violence
Of those arrested, 87 people have been released on general date, while 113 are still under investigation.
KATHMANDU: A total of 267 individuals have been arrested in connection with the arson and vandalism that occurred during the Gen Z protests on Sept 8 and 9 in Kathmandu.
According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, authorities have registered 154 cases related to vandalism and arson so far.
Of those arrested, 87 people have been released on general date, while 113 are still under investigation.
Police reported that 33 individuals have been freed on bail, whereas 43 have been remanded to judicial custody for further proceedings.
The District Police Range stated that 104 FIRs have been filed related to arson, vandalism, and public disorder. Among them:

22 complaints are from private individuals,

66 cases involve damage to government offices,

16 cases relate to attacks on institutional and commercial establishments, including incidents at the Supreme Court and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Authorities have also received 42 applications seeking case registration, including three filed by police personnel themselves.
Police further informed that DNA analysis is underway to identify seven bodies that remain unconfirmed, while descriptions of missing persons have been received from families.
Additionally, 228 inspection reports have been completed concerning structural damage caused during the protests.
During the unrest, 102 inmates who had escaped from various prisons were recaptured, and authorities have seized 83 weapons so far.
