Nine injured in Bolero crash in Taplejung

KATHMANDU: A Bolero vehicle accident in Meringden Rural Municipality has left nine people injured. According to police, the accident occurred at Sakphara in Meringden-3, Khamblung.

Three of the injured have been referred for advanced treatment: two to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan and one to Panchthar District Hospital.

The remaining injured are being treated at the Taplejung District Hospital.

The victims include Sangey Sherpa from Meringden-6 Nalbu, 17-year-old Dawa Sherpa, 68-year-old Bhim Kumar Kedem, 24-year-old Anjana Sherpa, 26-year-old Chunu Mabo Limbu, 17-year-old Dawa Chunda Sherpa, 23-year-old Furlamu Sherpa, and 51-year-old Guba Sherpa, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prasad Gautam of the Taplejung District Police Office.

The Bolero, bearing registration number Province 1-01-01317 Cha, was en route from Nalbu to the district headquarters, Phungling, when it crashed at around 10:30 AM.

Meringden Rural Municipality Chair Yuk Hang Bir Hangam (Dambar) confirmed the incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that brake failure caused the accident. Further investigation is underway.
