KATHMANDU: A Nepal Police rescue team has finally reached Tilagau in Namkha Rural Municipality–6, Humla, one week after a glacial lake outburst caused significant damage in the area.

The incident occurred on Jestha 1 (mid-May), when a glacial lake above the Sukhang Lugwa River burst, triggering a sudden increase in water flow that affected nearby settlements.

According to police, the outburst damaged several infrastructures, including a micro-hydropower station, water mill, wooden bridge connecting Tilagau and Halji villages, drinking water tanks, and irrigation canals.

The land around Tilagau village, located near the river, has developed cracks and is now deemed unsafe for habitation.

The deployed police team is relocating residents from high-risk households to safer locations using available resources, the Nepal Police reported.
