Bank guard’s room robbed, one caught

KATHMANDU: A theft occurred late Thursday night inside the living quarters of security guards stationed at Nepal Bank Limited in Kalyanpur, Khadak Municipality–7.
The stolen items were taken from the rooms of guards Pramod Chaudhary (39) and Parshuram Chaudhary (44), residents of Shambhunath Municipality in Saptari.
Both guards were asleep during the incident, when a drawer containing a single-barrel 12-bore firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones, and a digital weighing machine was looted, according to Superintendent of Police Dhakendra Khatiwada.
Police were alerted around 3:30 AM and immediately launched an investigation.
By 3:45 AM, a suspect was apprehended in Hospital Chowk, Lahan Municipality–3, Siraha, with stolen items in possession.
SP Khatiwada confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Apsad Ansari from Bisanpur, Khadak Municipality–6, after a coordinated alert was issued to all local police units in Saptari and Siraha.
Items recovered from the suspect include two laptops, two computer scanners, two kukris, two watches, five mobile phones, one SIM card, one speaker, a digital scale, and 20 rounds of 12-bore cartridges.
The stolen firearm was also recovered from a bush approximately 500 meters west of the bank in Kalyanpur, where the suspect had hidden it.
Ansari is currently in custody at the Area Police Office in Kalyanpur, where further investigation is ongoing.
