Diesel mistaken for cooking oil caused fire, two injured

KATHMANDU: A fire broke out in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-8, Kamane’s Namuna Tole on Wednesday evening after diesel was mistakenly used as cooking oil, leaving two people injured.

The incident occurred when 13-year-old Asiya Khatun, daughter of Salauddin Dewan of Birgunj Metropolitan City-30, currently residing in a rented house in Hetauda, accidentally poured diesel into a pan while cooking meat.

Asiya sustained burns on her face, hands, back, and legs. Also injured was 25-year-old Afrida Khatun of Motihari, Bihar, India, who was living with the family. She suffered minor injuries.

A team from the Pashupatinagar Area Police Office, led by Inspector Bimala Kumari Kathayat, quickly responded to the scene, controlled the fire, and transported the injured to Hetauda Hospital for treatment.

According to police, the fire caused an estimated loss of Rs 20,000, destroying wooden doors, rice, paddy, and clothing.
