Runaway bus crashes in Pingalasthan, injures 3 & damages 8 vehicles

KATHMANDU: A public bus lost control near Pingalasthan in Kathmandu on Tuesday, damaging eight vehicles and injuring three individuals, according to police.

The incident occurred when a Baba Gokarneshwor Yatayat bus (Ba 5 Kha 6735), en route from Gaushala to Tilganga, veered out of control and collided with several vehicles along the road, informed SP Apilraj Bohara of the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

The collision involved a microbus (Ba 5 731) driven by 34-year-old Raktim Lama of Kavre, a car (Ba Pra 01-026 Cha 8576) driven by 27-year-old Ram Tamang of Sindhupalchok, another car (BAC 9773) driven by 53-year-old Triratna Prajapati, a car (Ba 16 Cha 4452) driven by 41-year-old Pramprasad Gelal of Kathmandu, a motorcycle (Pra-2-01-003 Pa 1005) ridden by 37-year-old Shailendra Rai of Kathmandu, a motorcycle (Ba 51 Pa 22) ridden by 32-year-old Rajkumar Shrestha of Kathmandu, and a scooter (Ba Pra-02-046 Pa 4819) ridden by 19-year-old Smita Dhungel of Bhaktapur.

Bus driver Subas Rana Magar, 35, of Dolakha, fled the scene but was later taken into custody by police.

Among the injured are Rajkumar Shrestha of Dhading’s Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality–1 and pillion rider Bikash Kattel, 22, of Nuwakot’s Tadi Rural Municipality–2, both of whom were riding the Ba 51 Pa 22 motorcycle.

They are currently undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal.

Another motorcyclist, Shailendra Rai of Khotang’s Halesi Tuwachung Municipality–5, who was riding Pra-2-01-003 Pa 1005, was treated and discharged.

All injuries are reported to be minor.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
