Newly appointed NRB Governor assumes office, plans new currency design
Paudel was appointed by the Cabinet on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU: Bishwanath Paudel has officially assumed office as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
He took the oath of office and secrecy before Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha on Wednesday and immediately proceeded to the central bank’s office in Baluwatar to begin his duties.
Paudel was appointed by the Cabinet on Tuesday, ending a 44-day vacancy in the governor’s post caused by prolonged political deadlock between the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.
This delay violated the legal provision requiring a new governor to be appointed at least one month before the position becomes vacant.
Due to the deadlock, the central bank—a key economic advisory body for the government—had been without leadership since April 7.
Upon assuming office, Governor Paudel made his first decision to initiate the redesign of the 1000 and 50 rupee notes, marking a significant step toward currency modernization.
