KATHMANDU: The dream of Janajali Sarki of Simalkhet in Shuklaphanta Municipality-10, Kanchanpur, of having a safe home is likely to come true very soon.

For a long time, finding a safe home had been nothing more than a distant dream for her, but now she sees hope.

NEEDS Nepal is a non-governmental organization in partnership with the local government is implementing a project to construct 11 safe houses, targeting impoverished Dalit families in the area.

Janajali shared the struggles she faced living in her existing home. “My house leaks during the rains, and we have to struggle constantly to protect food and other belongings from getting wet. We also face the risk of bites from poisonous insects. The emotional pain I experienced when the roof was blown away by strong winds is hard to put into words.”

According to Ward Chair Lal Bahadur Air, the project aims to build safe homes for the marginalized Dalit families.

Construction is expected to be completed soon, and then the houses will be handed to the target groups.

Each house costs Rs 650,000 to construct, it is said.
