Bishwo Paudel sworn in as new governor of NRB

KATHMANDU: Dr. Bishwo Paudel has officially taken the oath of office as the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

He was sworn in by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Prakashman Singh Raut.

His appointment comes 44 days after the position became vacant, despite legal provisions requiring the selection of a new governor at least a month prior to the expiry of the incumbent’s term.

The delay was caused by prolonged political wrangling between the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

The recommendation committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, shortlisted Dr. Paudel alongside Acting Governor Neelam Dhungana Timsina and former Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai.

Dr. Paudel was selected and appointed on Tuesday.
