Gas leak sparks fire at Sigma College canteen

KATHMANDU: A fire broke out this morning at the canteen of Sigma College, located in Sorhakhutte, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire started due to a gas cylinder leak.

The blaze completely destroyed furniture, food items, and other materials inside the canteen, resulting in an estimated loss of around Rs 300,000.

Upon receiving the report, teams from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents rushed to the scene with fire engines.

Their joint efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading further.

According to DSP Shailendra Thapa of the Armed Police Force, the fire was fully brought under control by around 8 AM.

Fortunately, no human casualties were reported in the incident.
