DPM Singh urges increased use of domestic products

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has called for greater use of domestically produced goods to strengthen Nepal’s economy.
Addressing an event organized by the Cement Manufacturers’ Association in Lalitpur on Monday, Singh highlighted that Nepal currently produces around 22 million metric tons of cement annually.
He said that promoting the use of domestic products like cement can significantly contribute to reducing the country’s import dependency.
“If we look at the numbers, Nepal is producing 22 million metric tons of cement within the country. Using locally produced materials not only boosts domestic industries but also plays a key role in curbing the import-driven economy,” Singh stated.
He further added that increasing the use of domestic products will help steer the economy in the right direction and reduce reliance on imported goods.
Acknowledging Nepal’s challenging geography, Singh stressed the need to move forward with a focus on enhancing self-reliance and promoting local industries.
