Bartaula slams ‘demoralizing’ remarks in parliament
Bartaula criticized statements that, according to him, portray the parliament as ineffective and undermine its credibility.

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has expressed strong objection to what he called the spread of public despair through parliamentary remarks.
Speaking during Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Bartaula criticized statements that, according to him, portray the parliament as ineffective and undermine its credibility.
“Expressions that demoralize the parliament are being voiced from within the parliament itself,” Bartaula said. “Although there is a growing sense of frustration among the people, the government is actively working to turn that frustration into hope.”
He alleged that some remarks made by lawmakers are deliberately crafted to erode public trust in state institutions.
Bartaula also rejected claims that the current coalition government, formed by two major political parties, has failed to deliver. “Had we been in power, we would have been accused of performing magic tricks,” he said, criticizing those who create unrealistic expectations.
Bartaula noted that such discouraging remarks often come from the most outspoken lawmakers. “There is a deliberate and ill-intentioned effort to weaken public faith in important state bodies. The entire House must remain vigilant against such sponsored narratives,” he added.
He further likened such rhetoric to a magician pulling out currency notes from paper tricks — describing it as a momentary illusion that misleads the public.
Bartaula called on all political parties and members of parliament to act responsibly and uphold the dignity and effectiveness of the legislative body.
