Nepal beats UAE, qualifies for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup global qualifier

KATHMANDU: In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier Super Three stage, Nepal secured a crucial victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE), earning a spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

Chasing a target of 115 runs, Nepal achieved the target in 19.3 overs.

Captain Indu Barma led the team from the front, scoring an unbeaten 30 runs off 28 balls, playing a vital role in securing the win.

Other notable contributions came from Rubina Chhetri with 32 runs and Samjhana Khadka with 21 runs.

Vice-captain Pooja Mahato added 13 runs, while Rajmati Airi and Kavita Kunwar contributed 8 and 5 runs respectively.

For UAE, Mitchell Botha, Suraksha Kotte, Vaishnavi Mahesh, and Isha Ojha took one wicket each.

Earlier, after winning the toss and choosing to field, Nepal applied early pressure but UAE managed to post a competitive total of 114 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Isha Ojha starred for UAE with a brilliant 39-run knock, supported by Teertha Shatish’s steady 21 runs.

Nepal’s bowling was led by Manisha Upadhyay, who took 4 crucial wickets for just 20 runs in 4 overs. Kavita Kunwar claimed 2 wickets, and Rajmati Airi took 1 wicket.

Nepal had advanced to the Super Three stage as winners of Group C, alongside Group A winners and hosts Thailand and Group B winners UAE.

In the Super Three’s opening match, Thailand defeated UAE. Nepal is now set to face Thailand in the final Super Three match on Tuesday.

Before the final game, Thailand leads the points table with 8 points, followed by Nepal with 7 points and UAE with 6 points, with UAE having completed all their matches.
