APF officer Chhatyal summits Everest

KATHMANDU: Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, Danta Bahadur Chhatyal, has successfully climbed the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest.

According to APF Inspector and Everest Base Camp coordinator Nirmal Basnet, ASI Chhatyal reached the summit of Everest, standing at 8,848 meters, at 9:20 AM on Jestha 4 (May 18), proudly hoisting the national APF flag and the ‘Sagarmatha Samvad’ banner at the top.

Earlier, on Baisakh 22 (May 4), Chhatyal had also successfully climbed Lobuche Peak, which stands at 6,114 meters. His Everest expedition carried the symbolic message: “Tarai, Hills, Mountains—APF Nepal in Border Security.”

ASI Chhatyal had begun his journey towards Everest on Baisakh 15 (April 28), accompanied by the APF flag and the Sagarmatha Samvad initiative.

A day earlier, on Baisakh 14, he was officially bid farewell by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and APF Inspector General Raju Aryal with best wishes for a successful ascent.

Chhatyal is currently serving at APF Nepal No. 19 Bagalamukhi Special Task Force Battalion, Halchowk, according to APF Deputy Superintendent and Joint Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa.
