Rain, thunder, and snow likely in hills; public urged to stay alert

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported partial influence of a western disturbance, local winds, and moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea on Nepal’s current weather pattern.

As a result, most hilly areas are experiencing partly to generally cloudy conditions, while the rest of the country remains partly cloudy to mostly clear.

Light rainfall accompanied by thunder has already occurred in some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

According to the department, partly to generally cloudy conditions will persist in most hilly regions this afternoon.

There is a likelihood of light to moderate rain with thunder at isolated locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Light snowfall is also expected in a few areas of the high hills and Himalayan region.

Additionally, thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain unstable, with chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in the Terai areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Light snowfall may occur again in high hilly and Himalayan regions.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert, as this weather variability may adversely affect daily life, agriculture, health, roadways, and air travel.
