Filipino climber dies during Mt. Everest expedition
He was part of an expedition organized by Snow Horizon Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd.

KATHMANDU: Filipino mountaineer Philip II Santiago has died during his expedition to Mt. Everest, Nepal’s Department of Tourism confirmed today.
According to the department, Santiago passed away at Camp IV of Mt. Everest late last night while resting.
He was part of an expedition organized by Snow Horizon Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd.
“Santiago reached Camp IV around 7 to 8 PM in an exhausted state and was resting when he passed away,” the department said in an official statement, citing information received from other members of the climbing team earlier this morning.
Efforts are currently underway to bring his body down to the Everest Base Camp following the necessary protocols, the department added.
Camp IV, also known as the “Death Zone,” is located at an altitude of around 7,900 meters (25,918 feet) and is the final staging point before climbers attempt the summit of the world’s highest peak.
