KATHMANDU: A devastating series of overnight airstrikes on the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis has left at least 54 people dead, according to medical sources at a local hospital.

An Associated Press cameraman based in Khan Younis reported counting at least 10 airstrikes throughout the night until Thursday.

Many bodies were taken to the morgue of Nasser Hospital, where scenes of destruction and tragedy unfolded.

Some of the victims arrived in pieces, while others were brought in bags containing the remains of multiple individuals.

The hospital morgue confirmed that 54 people were killed in the strikes.

This marks the second consecutive night of intense Israeli bombardment.

Just a day earlier, on Wednesday, similar attacks across northern and southern Gaza claimed the lives of at least 70 people, including nearly two dozen children.

The escalation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump continues his tour of the Middle East.

Although he is currently visiting several Gulf countries, Israel is not on his itinerary. His regional visit had raised hopes of a potential ceasefire agreement or at least the renewal of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

However, the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has now entered its third month, continues to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
