KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Jag Prasad Sharma has expressed disappointment over the principles and priorities outlined in the Appropriation Bill for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83, stating they fall short of public expectations and fail to address the country’s pressing problems.

Speaking during a discussion in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Sharma said that the government has not correctly identified the core issues facing the nation and, as a result, has failed to formulate appropriate principles and priorities.

“The proposed priorities are not aligned with the real needs of the country,” Sharma said. “They lack the vision required to solve our problems. Even the points that have been included do not inspire confidence regarding their implementation.”

He further criticized the government’s approach, noting that the allocation of priorities seems disconnected from the country’s economic and structural challenges. “There were high hopes for a two-thirds majority government to introduce transformative changes—like legal reforms, shifts in mindset, and structural adjustments to boost the economy. Unfortunately, these expectations have not been met,” he added.

Sharma also accused the government of not being serious about addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the country.

He emphasized the need for the state to better identify national problems and formulate practical, impactful priorities accordingly.
