KATHMANDU: National Assembly member Krishna Bahadur Rokaya has emphasized the need for the upcoming national budget to strengthen the role of lawmakers by directly linking them with development initiatives.

Speaking during a discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26) in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Rokaya stressed that involving parliamentarians in development would enhance both their effectiveness and the overall governance system.

“To enhance the role of lawmakers, it is essential to connect them with development activities,” said Rokaya. “Doing so will not only boost the impact of development projects but also strengthen parliamentary functions, ultimately reinforcing the entire system.”

He urged the government to focus on effective implementation of the upcoming budget, ensuring it is guided by the national policies, programs, and priority frameworks.

Highlighting the underdevelopment of the Karnali Province, Rokaya called on the government to give it special priority in the new budget.

He pointed out that Karnali continues to lag behind in key human development indicators and previous budgets have failed to adequately address the region’s needs.

“I urge the government to prioritize Karnali Province in this year’s budget formulation. Past allocations have not been sufficient to uplift the region,” he said.

Reiterating his stance, Rokaya concluded by emphasizing that lawmakers must be integrated into development planning to make the budget more inclusive and impactful.
