KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against former Chief of the District Postal Office, Bara, Jaylal Prasad Sah Kanu, and six others for embezzling public funds.

According to CIAA Spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel, the accused individuals misappropriated a total of Rs 53.56 million by mishandling deposits made by the public to the Postal Savings Bank.

The CIAA’s investigation revealed that since 2060 BS, the officials responsible for managing the Postal Savings Bank failed to maintain proper records of depositors’ funds.

Instead of depositing the collected amounts into the bank’s official cash register, the accused reportedly entered transactions only in depositors’ passbooks and ledgers and diverted the funds for unauthorized personal use.

Along with former chief Sah Kanu, those named in the charge sheet include Adalat Prasad Kurmi, Bunni Prasad Yadav, Surendra Prasad Yadav, Sujit Kumar Sah, and then-assistant accountant Baliram Prasad Kurmi.

The commission has demanded prison sentences, fines, and recovery of the embezzled amount from the accused.
