MP Karki tells critics: See Nepal before judging development
MP Karki acknowledged that while the country has not seen sufficient development, considerable progress has been achieved even with limited resources.

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has pushed back against claims that there has been no development in Nepal, urging critics to travel from Mechi to Mahakali before making such assertions.
Speaking during Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives on the principles and priorities of the upcoming fiscal year’s Appropriation Bill, MP Karki acknowledged that while the country has not seen sufficient development, considerable progress has been achieved even with limited resources.
“Despite our constraints, significant development has taken place. However, it has not yet met the full expectations and needs of the people,” Karki said. He emphasized that spreading false and negative narratives about development could harm the country’s economy and hinder efforts to meet public demands.
Karki noted that although development has reached villages across the nation, many citizens still do not feel connected enough to stay in rural areas.
This, he said, highlights the need for a more thorough and realistic analysis of the development process.
He stressed the importance of a development strategy that aligns with public needs and called on the government to move forward with seriousness and commitment.
Karki also underlined the current government’s responsibility to ensure both political and economic stability in the country.
Calling for a budget that not only serves as a financial document but also lays the foundation for the country’s socio-economic transformation, Karki urged the government to focus on policies that foster long-term growth and development.
