KATHMANDU: A protest was held outside the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday, with demonstrators demanding an end to what they describe as India’s continued interference in Nepal’s internal affairs.

Organized by the ‘Greater Nepal Nationalist Front’ and the ‘Greater Nepal Communist Party’, the demonstration condemned the Indian government’s alleged unilateral construction of embankments along the Mahakali River. Protesters accused India of encroaching upon Nepali territory under the guise of flood control measures.

Carrying placards with slogans such as “Stop Indian Intervention,” “Down with Indian Interference,” and “Equal Facilities for All Government Employees from President to Civil Servants,” the protestors voiced strong nationalistic sentiments. Other demands included the cancellation of the Gorkha recruitment agreement, return of property to victims of predatory lending, and the preservation of Nepal’s territorial sovereignty.

The protest reflects ongoing tensions and historical grievances related to border disputes and bilateral agreements between the two neighbors.

Authorities monitored the demonstration closely, but no major incidents were reported.
