KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RSP) MP Anisha Nepali has remarked that the federal system of the country is like an expired medicine.

Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, MP Nepali made this statement.

She expressed concerns over Nepal’s placement on the gray list, stating that the country has suffered due to attempting to mimic global models of governance and economics.

According to her, shifting from a unitary state to a federal system in the name of solving national problems has proven to be detrimental. She emphasized that the current system is regressive, not progressive.

In her address, MP Nepali argued that the issues of governance, representation, government structure, and the equitable distribution of political, economic, and social rights have not been adequately addressed under the current federal system. She further explained, “The federal system of the country is becoming like expired medicine. While attempting to follow the world’s example, Nepal has ended up in the gray list. The shift from a unitary to a federal system in the name of solving problems has proven harmful. This system is regressive, not progressive.”

She also criticized the government’s handling of the political opposition, particularly after the events of ‘Three Corners,’ where leaders of her party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), were arrested due to their differing viewpoints.
