MPs call for climate action, disaster preparedness, and infrastructure boost

KATHMANDU: During a session of the House of Representatives, several lawmakers voiced concerns over the growing impact of climate change, natural disasters, and infrastructural challenges across Nepal.
MP Thakur Prasad Gaire highlighted the severe effects of the climate crisis and welcomed the recent “Sagarmatha (Sambaaad) Dialogue” as a significant step towards achieving climate justice. He expressed confidence that the dialogue would lead to meaningful solutions to the ongoing environmental challenges.
Echoing the urgency, MP Dig Bahadur Limbu raised the issue of receding water sources in Morang Constituency No. 1 following last year’s October floods. He called on the government to allocate budget for effective disaster management in the region.
MP Dol Prasad Aryal stressed the need for proactive disaster preparedness, pointing out the recurring hardships faced by citizens during the monsoon due to floods and landslides.
MP Tara Lama Tamang urged the government to rehabilitate families displaced by the expansion of the Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve.
MP Dr. Toshima Karki drew attention to the delay in the Kathmandu–Terai–Madhesh Expressway project, a national pride initiative, and pressed the government to expedite its construction.
MP Dikpal Kumar Shahi raised concerns over disorganized electricity distribution in Aathbiskot Municipality of Dailekh and urged prompt management.
MP Deepak Bahadur Singh called for the inclusion of revenue offices in discussions on district rate fixation and emphasized the need to curb policy-level corruption.
MP Narayani Sharma noted that frequent power cuts in the Terai-Madhesh region were worsening the effects of rising temperatures and demanded government intervention.
MP Nisha Dangi stressed the importance of sustainable development, skill-based training, quality education, employment, and good governance for national progress.
MP Pushpa Bahadur Shah requested budget allocation for the upcoming fiscal year to advance the construction of a 50-bed hospital in Achham District.
MP Prakash Jwala highlighted Salyan district’s potential in vegetable and fruit production and urged the government to improve irrigation and electricity supply in the area.
MP Prem Bahadur Maharjan called for action to protect vulnerable settlements, repair damaged bridges, and clean rivers following the devastating floods of October 11–12 last year.
MP Bindabasini Kansakar pointed out the lack of communication facilities in Ward No. 17 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City and urged the government to address the issue.
