MP Narayani Sharma slams NEA for nannounced power cuts amid heatwave
She expressed concern that people are being forced onto the streets in the middle of the night due to long hours without electricity.

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Narayani Sharma has strongly criticized the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for repeatedly cutting off power without prior notice, particularly during the ongoing heatwave.
Speaking during the zero hour of Tuesday’s House of Representatives meeting, MP Sharma said the NEA’s unannounced power outages have severely impacted the lives of ordinary citizens.
She expressed concern that people are being forced onto the streets in the middle of the night due to long hours without electricity.
“It is unacceptable for the NEA to cut power for hours on end without informing the public. In this unbearable heat, such actions are inhumane and disruptive to daily life,” Sharma said.
She questioned why the NEA, which previously managed to supply electricity consistently using the same resources and infrastructure, is now resorting to frequent blackouts. “Why has the situation deteriorated so badly? Is this the reason why Kulman Ghising was removed from his post?” she asked, implying that Ghising’s removal may be linked to the current power supply issues.
MP Sharma urged the Speaker of the House to issue a ruling directing the NEA to maintain a regular electricity supply and to ensure the public is informed in advance of any planned outages.
“I ask through the Honorable Speaker: why is there such disregard for the lives of the people? I demand a ruling to ensure regular power supply and accountability from the NEA,” Sharma concluded.
