RSP acting President Aryal urges govt. to prepare for monsoon risks

KATHMANDU: Acting President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dol Prasad Aryal, has called on the government to urgently initiate preparedness measures in anticipation of the monsoon season and its associated risks.
Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, Aryal highlighted the growing challenges caused by pre-monsoon floods and criticized the slow pace of road reconstruction projects, particularly along critical highways.
“Even before the official arrival of the monsoon, people are already suffering from floods. The collapse of a bridge in Nawalparasi has obstructed the East-West Highway, while floods have disrupted the BP Highway,” Aryal stated.
He expressed concern that top government officials, including the Prime Minister and ministers, often travel by air, making them disconnected from the deteriorating condition of roads. “Reconstruction work on the Nagdhunga-Muglin section is progressing at a snail’s pace,” he said, warning that this year’s monsoon could bring widespread hardships and pose serious risks of both minor and major accidents.
Aryal stressed the urgent need for concerned authorities to hold immediate discussions with contractors and construction companies to speed up the work. “I urge the government to create an environment where risks are minimized before the monsoon begins — even if it requires working in three shifts a day,” he added.
Aryal’s remarks reflect growing public frustration over the lack of infrastructure readiness as the monsoon looms, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas.
