KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has labeled those spreading pessimism about Nepal’s progress as “anti-Nepal elements” and called on the public to remain vigilant against such negativity.

During an on-site inspection of flood-affected areas in Melamchi and Helambu—severely damaged by the devastating floods of Asar 1, 2078 B.S., Minister Khadka emphasized the need for optimism and unity in rebuilding the nation. “Nepal must be built by Nepalis themselves. Spreading negativity benefits no one,” he said.

He reaffirmed the government’s full commitment to the reconstruction of the Melamchi and Helambu areas, noting that plans are being aligned with the upcoming budget cycle. “We are aware of the problems here and will make every effort to address them,” he assured.

Speaking about irrigation development, the minister highlighted a detailed project underway to channel water from the Indrawati River to irrigate 22 hill terraces (tars) in Bhotetar of Indrawati Rural Municipality. “Once irrigation is ensured, the district will no longer need to rely on external sources for food,” he noted.

Minister Khadka also underscored the contribution of Sindhupalchok to the Kathmandu Valley’s water supply, and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the development rights of local citizens. “Numerous works are ongoing, including embankment construction, canal and irrigation channel development, dams for hydropower, and water supply distribution,” he stated.

Condemning orchestrated campaigns aimed at weakening Nepal’s economy through negative narratives, Minister Khadka said, “This land is ours, and we must build it ourselves. We must stay alert to the influence of such anti-national mindsets.”
