KATHMANDU: A half-body statue (bust) of the late Satya Mohan Joshi, Nepal’s revered cultural icon and centenarian scholar, was unveiled on Tuesday in a special ceremony held at the premises of Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan inaugurated the bust, which was erected to commemorate Joshi’s 106th birth anniversary.

The statue honors Joshi’s unparalleled contributions to the preservation and promotion of Nepali language, literature, culture, and arts.

Satya Mohan Joshi passed away on Ashwin 30, 2079 BS at the age of 103.

In accordance with his wishes and with his family’s consent, his body was donated to KIST Medical College for educational purposes.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mayor Maharjan described the late Joshi as a national treasure. “He was the pride of our nation. His contributions are unmatched. This statue serves as a tribute to his legacy and a source of inspiration for future generations,” the mayor said.

Mayor Maharjan also announced that no additional statues will be erected in the Jhanakhya Park area. “With four statues already installed, the metropolitan city has decided not to construct a fifth,” he stated, reaffirming the city’s commitment to preserving the park’s existing integrity.
