Heavy rain causes major damage in several districts; woman missing in Kavre

KATHMANDU: Torrential rainfall on Monday caused significant damage across various parts of the country, particularly in districts such as Kavre, Gulmi, and Syangja, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane reported that Gulmi received 56.4 millimeters of rainfall, while Syangja recorded 53 millimeters.
In Kavrepalanchowk, 39.6 millimeters of rain was measured within just six hours.
The sudden downpour triggered flash floods in Kavre, resulting in considerable loss and damage.
According to Ram Sharan Bhandari, Mayor of Panauti Municipality, 28-year-old Renuka Giri of Ward 5 was swept away by floodwaters. She remains missing as of the latest update.
Floods have severely affected Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of the municipality.
Notably, temporary repairs made to drinking water pipelines and roads—damaged during the Ashoj 12 floods—were once again washed away.
While rainfall persisted throughout Monday, Mayor Bhandari noted that the weather began to clear in the evening in the Panauti area.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department also reported moderate to heavy rainfall in some hilly regions of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali Provinces.
Officials have advised the public to remain alert, as rainfall is expected to continue across various parts of the country in the coming days.
