KATHMANDU: Renowned Nepali actor and comedian Wilson Bikram Rai, popularly known as ‘Tokme Buda’, has been appointed the brand ambassador of Tokma Technologies, a multi-dimensional digital service provider.
The announcement was made during a formal event held at Hotel Yak & Yeti, Kathmandu, on Monday.
The event also marked the official launch of the Tokma App, under the chief guestship of former Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising.
Tokma aims to revolutionize Nepal’s digital service landscape by integrating ride-sharing, caregiving, tourism, and security services into a single platform. Additionally, the company unveiled its digital business card called “G Card.”
Upon his appointment, Rai expressed pride in joining Tokma, stating, “I’ve always used the platforms I represent to share meaningful messages with my followers. Tokma is not just an app—it’s a revolution aimed at uplifting daily life in Nepal. It’s a proud moment for me to be part of this mission.” He emphasized the need for homegrown digital solutions, arguing that Tokma will help retain financial resources within the country, generate employment, and strengthen the national economy.
Tokma CEO Sagar Angdembe welcomed Rai, saying, “We believe Wilson Bikram Rai will give life to Tokma’s vision. We are excited to have him as the brand face and voice of our mission.” Explaining the meaning behind the name, Angdembe said, “Tokma is inspired by a traditional stick used by mountain trekkers—a symbol of balance and support. The app too is a companion that simplifies everyday life.”
Co-founder Sanchaman Rai highlighted the importance of localized innovation, noting that while rich nations have long exported technology to smaller countries, nations like Nepal are now creating tailored tech solutions for their own needs. He mentioned that the Tokma App is a result of nearly three years of research. He also introduced the “G Card,” a customizable digital business card that replaces traditional paper cards.
Former NEA chief Ghising praised the app, calling it a much-needed tool for everyday use. He stated that it could play a key role in tourism, caregiving, and job creation within Nepal.
Tokma will offer services including ride-sharing, in-home care, tourist guide booking, and private security rentals. According to CEO Angdembe, the company aims to empower local service providers while ensuring reliable and convenient access for users.
Vice President of the Computer Association of Nepal, Chiranjeevi Adhikari, stated that Tokma embodies the dream of a digital Nepal. “Startups are not just businesses—they are the foundation of national prosperity. Tokma proves that ‘Made in Nepal’ is not just a slogan, but a reality,” he said.
As Tokma’s brand ambassador, Rai will lead nationwide awareness campaigns, encouraging people from all walks of life to embrace digital services and promoting the platform’s offerings throughout the country.
