KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that a potential military conflict between neighboring countries India and Pakistan was averted after Nepal urged both sides to exercise restraint.

Speaking at a special event held in Lumbini on the occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day 2082, Prime Minister Oli highlighted Nepal’s efforts to promote peace in the region.

“Just a few days ago, there was a near conflict between India and Pakistan, with rising tensions and confrontations,” PM Oli said. “Fortunately, the situation did not escalate into a full-scale war. We consistently urged both nations to show restraint, and I personally wished that the confrontation would not spiral into war.”

He further claimed that Nepal had communicated with both countries, and that both India and Pakistan assured they would not go to war. “We are grateful to both sides for showing maturity and commitment to peace,” he added.

PM Oli acknowledged that accusations and counter-accusations are still ongoing between the two countries, but emphasized the enduring relevance of Buddha’s message of peace. “The teachings of Buddha remain meaningful today — for individuals, families, and nations alike. Peace is essential at every level of society.”

He also reiterated the global importance of Buddha’s teachings, underlining their role in promoting harmony and understanding across the world.
