KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has extended the remand of Shiva Sena Nepal Chair Anil Basnet by two more days in connection with his alleged involvement in violent activities during a pro-monarchy demonstration in the capital’s Tinkune area.

Basnet, also known as ‘Anil Baba’, was arrested on Sunday from Sukedhara.

Following his arrest, he was presented before the court by the Kathmandu District Police Office, which sought additional time for investigation.

The court granted the request, according to police spokesperson SP Apil Raj Bohora.

Basnet, 47, is a permanent resident of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-3 in Morang district.

Police allege that he played a role in the arson and vandalism that occurred on March 28 (15th Chaitra) during a royalist protest in Tinkune.

An investigation has been launched under charges of criminal mischief, and authorities say more charges may emerge as the inquiry progresses.
