Spouses killed in separate domestic disputes in Khotang & Jhapa

KATHMANDU: Two separate incidents of domestic violence have resulted in the deaths of a husband and a wife in Khotang and Jhapa districts, with both perpetrators now in police custody.

In an incident in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-9, Khotang, 51-year-old Panchakarna Rai lost his life after a violent domestic dispute with his wife, 53-year-old Renuka Rai.

According to police reports, Renuka allegedly struck her husband on the head with the handle of a spade during a heated argument.

Following the incident, a police team from the Arkhaule police post responded swiftly and rescued the critically injured Rai.

He was airlifted to Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu for advanced medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Renuka Rai has been taken into custody by the District Police Office, Khotang, and further investigation is underway.

In another gruesome domestic incident in Jhapa, a man allegedly murdered his wife using a sharp weapon.

The incident occurred in Kanakai Municipality-2, Sukedagi, where 35-year-old Kabiraj Hemran is accused of killing his 34-year-old wife, Pooja Hemran, by sliting her throat with a khukuri following a domestic dispute.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Area Police Office, Surunga, was dispatched and apprehended Kabiraj.

The victim’s body has been sent to Provincial Hospital, Bhadrapur, for postmortem.
