KATHMANDU: Chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that the practical teachings of Lord Gautam Buddha continue to inspire the creation of a progressive, inclusive, and just society.

In a message issued on the occasion of the 2569th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, Chair Dahal stated that Buddha’s philosophy conveys a profound message that “revolution and peace” are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary forces in the transformation of society.

“Buddha Jayanti is not merely a religious or cultural celebration, but a historically significant moment that inspires rebellion against the status quo, social transformation, and peaceful revolution,” he said.

Highlighting Buddha’s emphasis on compassion, non-violence, and the middle path, Dahal said that Buddha launched an ideological revolution against the deeply rooted caste, gender discrimination, and superstition of his time. “Even today, Buddha’s teachings remain a profound source of inspiration,” his message reads.

Underscoring the importance of cultural diversity and identity in nation-building, Dahal said, “To establish genuine national unity in a diverse Nepali society, the protection of identity and cultural diversity is essential.”

Calling for forward movement rather than regression, he emphasized the need to safeguard past achievements while working towards securing greater rights. He urged all to unite in the campaign to build a socialist foundation through the establishment of an inclusive federal democratic republic in Nepal.
