10 climbers, including 5 foreigners, successfully summit Mount Kanchenjunga

KATHMANDU: A team of 10 climbers, including five foreigners, has successfully summited Mount Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world and Nepal’s second-highest peak at 8,586 meters.

The climbers are currently descending after reaching the summit on Saturday afternoon, according to Mingma Sherpa, Manager at Seven Summit Treks.

The successful climbers include nationals from the UK, Iran, Kosovo, and Nepal. Lakpa Temba Sherpa led the team as the chief guide.

This season has seen a notable number of international climbers attempting Mount Kanchenjunga, including participants from joint military expeditions of Nepal and India.

According to Mingma David Sherpa, Director of Elite Expeditions Kathmandu, an additional 63 climbers, including 15 women and their guides, are currently in the Kanchenjunga region preparing for their summit push.

Elite Expeditions was responsible for route fixing this year.

Nine climbers from the company previously reached within 40 meters of the summit before turning back due to adverse conditions.
