KATHMANDU: Three Indian security personnel were killed and seven others injured following heavy shelling and a drone strike carried out by the Pakistani military along the international border.

According to Indian media outlet Navbharat Times, those killed in the attack include personnel from the Indian Army, the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Indian Air Force.

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar from Himachal Pradesh, who was stationed at Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch, sustained severe injuries during a mortar attack near his post early Saturday morning. Despite being rushed for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

Rifleman Sunil Kumar, a 25-year-old soldier of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, was seriously wounded during overnight firing in the RS Pura sector. He later died due to the severity of his injuries.

Sergeant Surinder Kumar, serving as a medical assistant with the 36th Wing of the Indian Air Force, was also killed in the attack. He had been recently transferred to Udhampur from Bengaluru just four days prior.

In a separate incident at the international border in the RS Pura sector, BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz was killed in the Pakistani firing. Additionally, seven other BSF personnel were reported injured in the same assault.

Following the tragic incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh (1 million rupees) for the families of each martyred security personnel.
