Accident: Police officer dies, two wounded
The vehicle was heading from Gaighat to Biratnagar when the accident occurred.
KATHMANDU: A road accident at Phutni Chowk in Duhabi Municipality-3, Sunsari, claimed the life of a police officer and left two others injured on Sunday morning.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Birodh Khatriwada, who was deployed at the Udayapur District Police Office, died at the scene after a pickup truck (Province 2-01-00CH 215) lost control and slammed into an electric pole.
The 30-year-old officer, a resident of Gairun, Triyuga Municipality-8, Udayapur, was traveling to Biratnagar for a personal matter, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kedarman Dong.
The vehicle was heading from Gaighat to Biratnagar when the accident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and driver negligence may have caused the crash.
The driver, 38-year-old Suresh Karki of Chaudandigadhi Municipality-6, Udayapur, and his 14-year-old daughter sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
