Rain, thunderstorms, and snow likely in Nepal’s hills & mountains

KATHMANDU: Due to the combined influence of westerly winds, local air systems, and moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, most parts of Nepal are currently experiencing partly to generally cloudy skies, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

As per the latest forecast from the Meteorological Forecasting Division, hilly regions, especially in Gandaki and Karnali Provinces, are witnessing light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Other areas of the country are experiencing mainly clear to partly cloudy conditions.

During the day, scattered thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely in the hilly areas of Koshi, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, and other provinces.

The high-altitude Himalayan regions may also receive light snowfall along with rainfall at a few locations.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility of strong winds in some parts of Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces. Tonight, the hilly regions will remain partly cloudy, while weather conditions in the rest of the country are expected to be mostly clear.

However, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall are still likely in a few highland and mountainous areas.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert due to these weather conditions
